Early Childhood Music Education

MEET THE COMPOSER (5&6 years)
Students are introduced to an array of great composers and their music of the past 300+ years through classic recordings, videos, live performances, biographical sketches, and maps. Students hear the music of Vivaldi and Bach from the Baroque period; encounter Mozart and Beethoven of the Classical era; and enjoy Romanticists such as Brahms and Tchaikovsky, Impressionists Debussy and Ravel, and 20th century masters Britten, Gershwin, and Copland. In addition, students explore the elements of music through group singing, rhythmic movement, and music notation. Educational materials are distributed to each student in class and kept in an annotated folder that is taken home at the end of the year. In addition to a head teacher and an assistant teacher, this class features a pianist who improvises accompaniments in a variety of musical styles, and assists with the group's original compositions.
