Daniel Conant

INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL DEPARTMENT - Guitar

Born and raised in New York City, Daniel Conant began studying Hindustani classical

music at the age of 11. During his teenage years he performed on the sitar in venues across

the United States and India. Since switching his focus to the classical guitar at age 18,

Daniel has become a champion for guitar music new and old.

Daniel has performed at prestigious NYC venues such as Weill Recital Hall, Symphony

Space, and the Morgan Library & Museum. He has performed internationally in Italy,

Belgium, Mexico, and Canada, where he was a prizewinner at the Hamilton International

Guitar Competition. Devoted to new music, Daniel has premiered works by composers

Alba Potes, William Anderson, and Jonathan Dawe, among others. Daniel is also an active

chamber musician, and in October 2023, he released an album of chamber music for flute,

viola, and guitar.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts from Sarah Lawrence College where he studied with

guitarist-composer William Anderson. He earned a Master of Music with honors from the

Eastman School of Music where he worked closely with guitarist Nicholas Goluses and

lutenist Paul O’Dette. In 2020, he was awarded a grant from the Belgian-American

Educational Foundation to study with Raphaëlla Smits at Lemmens Institute in Leuven,

Belgium.

Since 2017 Daniel has taught music privately and at various institutions in the US and

Belgium. In 2024 he became an accredited Suzuki Method teacher under the guidance of

Andrea Cannon. Daniel enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities – from complete

beginners to aspiring professionals.
