Deidre Struck
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEPARTMENT - Music
Deidre Struck is a Brooklyn-based composer, pianist, and songwriter. A former member of the all-female band The Lascivious Biddies, she was commissioned by Carnegie Hall to co-create two original children’s shows that premiered at Carnegie Hall. She has also worked extensively as a teaching artist with Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project, helping caregivers write songs for their babies. Notable published works include three jazz albums on the esteemed Sunnyside label, as well as the EP Written in Stars, co-written with Byron Isaacs (bassist for The Lumineers). She has also lent her expertise to a six-week composer residency at the Nightingale-Bamford School, and is a frequent contributor of original material to Brooklyn Children’s Theater. Her own music has been featured in cabaret, theater, and recordings, including collaborations with Natalie Merchant. Her current project, Fun Spot: An (ex?) Mormon Musical, blends humor and heartbreak to explore themes of identity, faith, and liberation.
