Joy Son

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEPARTMENT - ACCOMPANIST

As a multi award-winning theatre composer, Joy's musicals have been performed in the US and in Asia. A South-Korean born based in New York City, she was the first female foreign composer to be commissioned to write the original musical for Japan’s biggest theater, Takarazuka Revue Company (founded 1913), in their more than one-hundredyear history! In addition to her prolific writing career, Joy has diverse proficiencies in arranging, orchestrating, improvising, conducting and music directing.

Passionate about nurturing genuine love of music in children, Joy is piano faculty at the Geneva School of Manhattan, and is currently a Dalcroze teacher trainee also. She holds a B.M. in classical composition from Ewha Womans University, an M.A. in composition from NYU, an M.F.A. in musical theatre writing from NYU (Tisch), and is a proud alumna of BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, a Tony-honored theatre writing program.

Joy is a firm believer of the vital role of music education in developing the whole child.
