Mica Poerio

INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL DEPARTMENT - violin

With over a decade of experience, New York-based violinist and violist Mica Poerio brings a fresh approach to teaching strings. With a long-time interest in cognitive and developmental processes, Mica blends his unique background in clinical psychology and string pedagogy together. Viewing the learning process through a scientific and collaborative lens, Mica fosters a space committed to encouraging students’ growth of critical thinking and self-assessment skills with music as the conduit. Mica most recently completed his Suzuki Violin training under the tutelage of Linda Case at Manhattan’s School for Strings and is currently a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. When his busy teaching schedule permits, Mica freelances and volunteers with local community orchestras. Past performance opportunities include positions with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, the Huntsville Symphony, and the Chautauqua Summer Festival Orchestra. He is a graduate of New York University and is currently completing his M.A. in Psychology of Education at Teachers College at Columbia University. When not teaching, performing, or studying, Mica volunteers for a Crisis Text Line.
