Ruth Alperson

INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL DEPARTMENT - MUSICIANSHIP

As a member of the faculty of The Dalcroze Program at Diller-Quaile, Dr. Alperson teaches Dalcroze Eurhythmics classses for children, and Dalcroze Methodology sessions for teachers. A new course, “Finishing the Hat,” offers candidates for Dalcroze teaching certification the opportunity to work with a peer group on a portfolio that includes written work, as well as a choreography, of a musical work, à la Dalcroze, known as plastique animée. Dr. Alperson holds a B.A. in Music from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. in Arts and Humanities from NYU. Ruth has earned the Licentiate from The Dalcroze Teachers Training Course in London, England, and the Diplôme Supérieur from L’Institut Jaques-Dalcroze in Geneva, Switzerland. She has presented Dalcroze workshops across the U.S., in Canada, Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Australia, and Central America. Dr. Alperson is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference of Dalcroze Studies (ICDS), and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dalcroze Society of America (DSA). Dr. Alperson is Dean Emerita of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY.
