Value of Music Study
What is the value of music study? How is it connected to, but distinct from the value of music in our lives? In September 2023, Diller-Quaile faculty gathered in the School’s Performance Space to think through and discuss these topics by initially responding to a different set of questions: what first drew you to study music; what are your first memories of music study. Recalling first memories of music study and being drawn to study music, opened the door to quiet introspection and the desire to share these recollections with colleagues.
The following document shines a light on the comments and descriptive themes that emerged from this large group conversation. The findings were presented late fall 2023 at the National Association of Schools of Music Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, AZ.
